Professional Profile

Areas of Interest:  Clay and/or soil mineralogy, reclamation of surface mine soils, especially prime farmland, precision agriculture, variable nitrogen and seeding rates and their effect on corn yield.

Member of the following societies: Clay Minerals Society Soil Science Society of America American Society of Agronomy American Society of Mining and Reclamation

I conducted reclamation research on the reclamation of mined land from 1972 until my retirement. This began on western Kentucky on mine spoils or overburden materials and since the passage of SMCRA in 1977 the focus has been more on prime farmland. As a result of measuring corn yields, this research focused on non-mine land doing research now known as precision agriculture.
