Opportunities

Many of our faculty offer opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student research. Funding for these projects varies.

Current Openings

The Agriculture and Environmental Informatics laboratory specializes in developing data-driven computational tools to support sustainable agriculture and natural resource management. Our research projects span multiple scales, from the laboratory and on-farm to regional and national levels.

The Research Analyst will play a pivotal role in developing and leading projects with Dr. Mizuta and other stakeholders. The core focus of the work is the integration and analysis of high-volume, high-resolution datasets on soil, landscape, and plant characteristics. The candidate is expected to collect and analyze data from a variety of sources, including on-site laboratory and field measurements, as well as proximal and remote sensing technologies.

The position will have the opportunity to contribute to impactful and innovative development of real-world solutions that promote sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. Since this position is not tied to a specific project, the research analyst will assist with a variety of projects, papers, and ideas related to precision agriculture, digital soil mapping, and soil health research. Specific areas of interests include but not limited to:

  • development of decision support systems for planting
  •  fertilizer/water/pesticide/herbicide application
  •  soil health
  •  soil carbon and nutrient modeling
  •  digital soil mapping,
  •  geospatial modeling
  •  proximal soil and plant proximal (visible/near-infrared and mid-infrared spectroscopy)
  •  remote sensing

If you are passionate about using data science and computational methods to address complex challenges at the intersection of agriculture and the environment, we encourage you to apply. We also welcome your applications if you are interested in involving various projects with diverse stakeholders (e.g., farmers, crop consultants, scientists from other research institutions, industries, and government agencies) and/or want to involve in publishing scientific articles and grant applications.
