LEXINGTON, KY (May 5th, 2014) - This year, in conjunction with the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences Graduate Program’s Distinguished Alumnus Award, Atanas Radkov was honored with the Doyle E. Peaslee Award, given to an outstanding graduate student in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences. Atanas, a Soil Science PH.D candidate, is pictured receiving his award from his advisor, Dr Mark Coyne.

Doyle Peaslee was a long-time member of our faculty and this award was established by his family in his memory. The basis for the award is: high GRE scores, good grades, research strength, and potential for “contributions to US agriculture.” Eligible students were those enrolled for the 2013-2014 academic year in Crop Science, Plant Physiology, and Soil Science PhD programs; students in the Plant and Soil Science M.S. graduate program; and students in either IPSS program whose advisor is a faculty member in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences. The award has been given periodically since 1991 and consists of a small honorarium and an engraved plate with the student’s name posted in the department.
